THOMAS C. JARDIM, born Summit, New Jersey, November 7, 1965; admitted to bar, 1994, New Jersey and the United States District Court, District of New Jersey; 1995, New York and Connecticut.  Education: University of Richmond (B.A. 1988); Washington College of Law of the American University (J.D., 1993 and M.A., 1994, cum laude).  Mayor, Town of Westfield, 1997-2001.  Member: New Jersey and Union County Bar Associations.  CONCENTRATION: Employment and Labor Law, Commercial Litigation, and Non-Profit Law. 

Tom Jardim is a litigation partner engaged in civil trial practice, concentrating in employment and labor law and handling complex matters involving discrimination and wrongful termination before administrative agencies, state and federal courts through all phases of discovery and trial.  His practice areas also include construction litigation, healthcare litigation and non-profit law.  He is an experienced trial attorney, having tried numerous cases in state and federal court in New York and New Jersey.  

Mr. Jardim was elected mayor of the Town of Westfield in 1996, and was reelected to that position in 1998.  He was the first Democrat elected mayor of Westfield since 1909.  In 2001, Mr. Jardim was a candidate for the New Jersey State Assembly from the 21st Legislative District.   

During his tenure as mayor, Tom served as the President of the Union County League of Municipalities, as an officer with the Portuguese American Congress of New Jersey and an Advisory Board of Trustees Member of Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, New Jersey.  He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Westfield Foundation, the Westfield Interfaith Community Preservation Association and the Westfield Neighborhood Council. He is a founding member and current secretary of the Raritan Valley Line Rail Coalition, a coalition of municipal and county officials, rail advocates and commuters, and he serves as a member of the President’s Council of Emerging Leaders of the University of Richmond, in Virginia. 

Mr. Jardim is a 1988 graduate of the University of Richmond, where he worked in the policy office of then-Virginia Governor Gerald R. Baliles.  He received a law degree and a masters in foreign affairs, magna cum laude, from the American University in 1993.  Prior to law school, Mr. Jardim spent six months living in Tanzania in East Africa while conducting research and co-writing a documentary film.     

Prior to engaging in the private practice of law, Mr. Jardim worked at the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, Executive Office of Asset Forfeiture, in the U.S. Department of Justice and as an  Assistant Legislative Liaison with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.
